Summer School

First of all, I have no idea why my font is being underlined but I can't seem to un-underline. Well, looks like I somehow figured it out, sweet! This week is the last week of summer school - WOO WOO! August is going to be a really fun month, and looking back on June and July, it's been short but very sweet. I was so lucky that Joel was able to be in Iowa City and I think we both really enjoyed our time here.

Yesterday I took the 2 little girls I babysit for to the Children's Museum. Caroline and J loved it!

All summer, for 9 weeks, the same group of great people have been in class together. There is only eleven of us so we have become really good friends who know weird details about each other (+50 cousins, burst appendixes, dream wedding plans, car colors, etc.) Since Friday is our last day we all went out to dinner. We were missing 3 people out of the bunch but the rest of us had a really good time. After dinner (i.e. almost 11pm...that was annoying!) most of us headed out to a few bars. I can honestly say that they're the only thing that I'm going to miss about summer school :)

Kevin tried to attempt the Airbus......didn't even get through 1/2
If YOU decide to try it, we'd advise having a doctor at your table with you.
Risk of heart attack increases with every bite.

The pimp :)

We made it to Bo James for country night and Jill was VERY excited!

And Joel finally got to meet all of the people I've been non-stop talkng about all summer

Too much

Manic Monday!

Let's just say this weekend was so much fun (too much fun) that I'm still feeling the effects at 10 o'clock in the morning on Monday. Problematic.

Friday was very low key. Iowa City had major storms, so we rented a movie...College Roadtrip, featuring Raven-Symone...and ordered in pizza. I had to force Joel to watch the movie, but there was more than one occasion where he was the one laughing out loud. Katie was all alone at the apartment next door, and with lights browning out, so she ran over to our apartment in the torrential rain, and had a sleep over!

Saturday was a beautiful day. I ran a pretty decent 3 miles in the morning, and it wasn't horrible. I had wanted to run 4 miles, but my foot is just getting over a stress fracture and would not allow me to go any further than 3. Hopefully by next weekend I can do 4. Saturday night Katie's boyfriend, Dan, came in from Chicago with his brother Dave. Joel and I joined them for dinner at 3 Samurai. It was a very fun choice. The chef cooks at your table and has everyone involved. Not too mention the fabulous sushi I had. After a few martini's and saki bombs, the drinks just kept comin'. After dinner, we headed to DC's and played darts the entire night. Joel and I took "eco-cabs" home, which is a bike ride carriage thing, but when I got home...I didn't go to sleep. Instead, I got sick. Not a fun way to end our great weekend. Sunday morning I had to work at 8am - which wasn't fun at all. I felt so sick all day Sunday, and I'm still recovering. Ended up dragging myself out of bed to catch The Ugly Truth with Emily. I even brought soup into the movie. Both the soup and the really funny movie helped me feel much better. Including the lime la croix that Emily bought for me during the day which was the cutest thing ever.

Here are some pics from Saturday night

I wasn't sure what to write about so I thought this would be a fun thing to spark some idea's....It didn't. Maybe I'll go searching for another survey! This class is really difficult!

I will say one thing, these summer classes have gotten me so excited to become a teacher. I can't wait to have my own classroom, own set of kids, and a place to execute all of these things I've been learning. We're being taught different ways of teaching , great activities to incorporate, and different strategies to use in the classroom. For a while I played around with the idea that maybe I wouldn't teach right away, try and find a corporate job that could offer me more $, but I think it will be hard not to go straight into the classroom. The fact that I am so excited makes me believe that this is what I am supposed to do, and what I will be good at.

70 in July

First of all....Happy Birthday Nellie! Nellie is 16 today! She already has a car, so all she needs now is her license. Last night to celebrate, she sang a concert at the Dole. I'm so bummed that I missed it but I expect to see lots of pics and video's. Nellie is an outstanding singer (plus guitar player) so I know she did awesome last night. Below is a link of Birdie playing and singing.

This weekend was quite eventful. The big move happened! Starting on Saturday morning, Joel and I moved all of my stuff to the new apartment next door. It took us a good 10 hours. Not fun. However, the new apartment looks great (I'll post some pics after my workout this afternoon). I was really worried that my bedroom would be super cramped, but instead it's cozy. Everything has a spot and the bay window makes for a very pretty headboard. The light it brings in is so nice, I don't even want to put up my drapes. For the next month, Joel and I will be roomies.

Even though we had long days of moving in, the nights this weekend were very fun. On Friday, we finally got to Devotay. It was worth the wait. The restaurant is smaller than I would have thought, but reminds me of an old Chicago restaurant. I had great homemade sangria, we shared a grilled calamari and got a bowl of paella. Plus....a creme brulee! Saturday night, Jessica came into town, and Lauren, Jess, and I went out for Mexican. Emily also had friends in so Joel and I met Emily and her two adorable friends for drinks downtown. I started a new job on Sunday so we had to call it an early night. On Sunday morning's I'm now the nursery leader at a church for infants up to 5 year olds. It is such an easy and fun job, it just starts at 8am, which means I need to be up early. As for last night, Jessica and Matt popped over after dinner time and the four of us hung out on our new balcony. It was a very "adult" night. It wrapped up at about 9:30.

This week should be pretty standard. I'll be doing some more finishing touches on the new apartment, and hopefully going to see an outside movie. Iowa City has movies that play down by the old capitol and I keep missing them. Before the movie there's a concert and it looks like so much fun. On Thursday, they're playing E.T. A movie that I actually hate, but I'm going to go to anyways.

I'll be sure to post some pictures of the apartment a little bit later.

Until next time
xoxo
