Physical

Yep. It's that time. I have my first "Adult" physical on Saturday morning. I did some research for my own purposes, but I thought it might be helpful to share.

Here are some things the Doc will check out.......along with the numbers I want to see:
  • Blood pressure: less than 120 over 80 is a normal blood pressure.
  • Heart rate: Values between 60 and 100 are considered normal.
  • Glucose levels:  A "random" blood glucose test taken at any time. A normal blood glucose range is in the low to mid 100s. A diagnosis of diabetes is made if your blood glucose reading is 200 mg/dl or higher and you have symptoms of disease such as fatigue, excessive urination, excessive thirst or unplanned weight loss
  • Cholesterol:
    • Total: Below 200mg,
    • Triglyceride: 150mg
    • LDL: 100mg
    • HDL: +60mg

During my research, it said a lot of doctors make you fast for 12 hours before the exam. My doctor didn't mention anything like that, so I think I'm going to have to give him a call tomorrow and check if he needs me to do so.

I get pretty bad anxiety when it comes to doctors and health, but I'm hopeful, and confident for great results and the relief I will feel when I get a thumbs up.

---

I have a whole line up of fun activities for the weekend, and hopefully I'll remember to use my nice camera to document. Have an amazing long weekend!

Whoops

If you read my "WILW" post yesterday....you will notice that I said:

Yea, well....it looks like my sister DOES read my blog.

Hi Nell.

WILW

Happy Wednesday! We're half way there people!

1. I am loving that we are on our way to a long weekend. I've been waking up in the morning, debating going into work, and then remembering that next Monday, I don't have to! I feel like this weekend is the official kick-off to summer!

2. I am loving that my sister Nellie is going to be a High School graduate this weekend!

3. And....I love the present I got her. I don't think she reads my blog, so I can tell you what I'm doing. I got her this fabulous tote bag and had her monogram done in Kentucky Blue, where she'll be at next year. I plan to fill it with some of college necessities (like a bottle of vodka)...Kidding!
4. Can I love another Benefit product? Because if I can, I'm loving their "Speed Brow".
Sephora says, "It's fr gals on the go - this brush-on gel is the short cut to perfect looking brows."

5. I am loving this recipe blog. Visit it, you will love it too.

6. I am loving that I joined the work softball team. I may say later that I hate it, but, for now, I'm pumped. It's a co-ed team of about 20 people from work, and everyone's getting all jazzed up and the energy is totally rubbing off on me. *Side note: They're not going to be "all jazzed up" when they see me play...but oh well! Our first game is June 1st, so wish us luck!
7. I would also love if I could look like these ladies when I'm playing!

brain dump

  • Holy tiredness. I'm like absolutely exhausted right now. 6:30am workout + work all day + slaving over some healthy lasagna = pooped me.
  • Side note, I've been so tired lately. I have a ton of energy throughout the day, but come 9pm I'm out for the count. Put a little alcohol me, and make it 8pm. I feel bad because I pretty much peace out on Joel, but I just can't keep my eyes open anymore. Is this a side effect of being an adult?
  • I have my first adult physical on Saturday and I'm pretty excited and nervous. I like to think that I take pretty good care of myself, I just hope that all of my tests reveal that fact.
  • I need to set up a lot of doctors appointments this summer, highest priority being the dermatologist. It's just hard to find time to see doctors during the week, but I need to get this task accomplished. Especially since May is Skin Awareness Month. Grab your SPF 50 ladies! Pale is totally the new tan.
  • I'm making my first lasagna tonight. I followed this recipe for a lighter version of the delicacy and can't wait to see how it turns out.
  • How do you feel about the new bachelorette? I really disliked Ashley on Brad's season, found her dramatic and annoying, but I'm sure I'll get sucked in somehow.
  • What I am excited for though, RHONJ - I'm sure hilarity will ensue.
  • I can't believe how quickly my weeks and weekends fill up. This weekend is already stocked full of events: Cooking class on Friday night, doctor's appointment, Nell's graduation, Nell's graduation dinner, church, brunch, bbq, laundry, and shopping!
  • I snuck in an early morning workout today and absolutely loved it. I felt the energy all day through.
  • I have bunny tracks ice cream in the freezer and have thought about it literally all day. I don't think my doctor would like that.

weekend riots

Right now I'm laying on the couch, haven't showered since Friday, with dirty feet and tired legs.

Quite the pretty image, no?

---

Saturday morning, I left the city at 8:30 in the morning and headed home to Crystal Lake to help my mom get set up for Nellie's graduation party.
My mom threw a "mother/daughter luncheon" with 12 girls from Nell's high school and their mom's.

The weather didn't turn out so well, so we set up 3 tables of 8 in the dining room.
My mom served (and made) an orzo salad, cesar salad, macaroni salad, and 2 sandwiches; chicken salad and roast beef.

Nellie is a huge fan of "DC Cupcakes" and insisted on ordering a dozen cupcakes from the D.C. location.

Surprisingly they all shipped fashionably well and were absolutely delicious.
For dessert, I was in charge of gathering candy in Nellie's school colors, orange and black.

Needless to say all of the pretty guests were well served.
The party was a success and I left around 3 to head back into the city for the next party.

---

Annie made it safely from Maine to Chicago, and we barely had enough time to catch up before we were heading to the "Wine Riot"

Luckily I was able to wear the same digs for both events.

Wine Riot is an event for the "under 30 crowd" that is all about learning, trying, and drinking new wines in a "fun" way.

Boy, was it fun.

The event was held at Union Station in Great Hall and had music, food, and 250 booths of wine. They had mini wine classes (think: Price Whore No More) throughout the night, and Annie, Joel, Kyle, and I had an amazing night.

Thankfully I was smart and went right to bed when we got home, because the other three fools stayed up until 4 in the morning polishing off a few more bottles of wine and debating what one debates when intoxicated!

The event was a huge success, and absolutely worth the $50 ticket,so if you live in NY or DC, check it out because those are the next two stops on their tour.

"It's Friday, Friday, Friday....."

Just call me Rebecca Black, but I'm soooo happy that "It's Friday"
I'm really excited because I've got a great weekend in front of me.

After work tonight my team is going for a happy hour at Theory and then Joel is going to meet me around 7 for a late birthday dinner at Hubbard Inn. It's gotten great reviews so I'm really looking forward to it.
I'm loving on the atmosphere already
Saturday morning I'm waking up really early and driving home to Crystal Lake (which is about an hour drive). My sister Nellie is graduating from High School and is having a "Mother/Daughter Luncheon" for her graduation party.
I know, she's INSANELY gorgeous - and she's going to be a Wildcat at UK in the fall
Hopefully the weather cooperates because my mom's plan is to have everyone eat lunch in our backyard, which has nice a patio and pergola.

I'm going to have to scoot out of there by 4 or 5 to head back to the city because my good friend Annie is making the trek to Chicago and will be stay with us on Saturday night.

---
We are taking Annie to a "Wine Riot" which is being hosted at Union Station, which is a train station, and will have 250 booths set up for wine tastings and lessons. There will be live music and food vendors, and I'm really looking forward to a unique and fun event.
Hopefully Sunday I can get in a long workout and grocery trip, and get geared up for another week.

Hope you have a fabulous weekend planned, too!

A Weighty Issue

I hate to sound like a broken record - and I'm about to.

Back Story:
I connnnstantly obsess work on my food intake, exercise output, and the number on the scale. I've been the same weight, plus or minus a few lbs, for the last 6 or 7 years and to be honest, for the past 6 or 7 years I've wanted to be about 15 pounds thinner.
On Thanksgiving morning, I ran a 10k, and decided I'd stop running for the winter season. Pair my lack of running, with holiday eating, I gained about 7 pounds. After Christmas, I realized that I needed to get busy again, so I enlisted a trainer.

Flash forward 4 months later and I didn't lose a pound.

And here we are today:
I still have those sticky 7lbs from the winter, and it's about time to get rid of them, and hopefully they'll take a few more of their friends with them.
My current "program" is not eating carbs for breakfast or lunch. I've been doing it for one week , and I'm already down -2.5lbs.
My loose plan is so far pretty easy, and I'm finding that the key is preparation and having lots of fresh food in the house.

Breakfast is looking like yogurt and a fruit smoothie with a scoop of peanut butter.
Lunch is turkey, a cheese stick, carrots, an apple, nuts, and a banana.
PM snack is normally a Chai tea latte.

I'm trying to get 5 cardio workouts in a week and that's about the best I can do. I'm still indulging in a drink(s) at night, and do allow myself a small scoop of ice cream after dinner too.

I have a physical scheduled for next Saturday which will hopefully give me some intense, short term motivation.

I'm hoping my results will last as long term motivation.

Here goes nothin'!

WILW

Happy Wednesday! Here's what I'm luuuuvin'

1. Hello goregous.
 Wanna play later?

2. I'm not about to blow you away with a secret product, but I have a feeling my summer is going to be very filled with this low-calorie goodness.

Oh, and they have them cheap ($9.99) at Target

3. You may not know this about me but I'm a true lover of all Benefit makeup products.
Right now, my newest obsession is their liquid blush/lip stain Posietint.
The brush  brush is similar to a nail polish brush but creates an "inner flush" look that is natural and pretty.

4. The older I get the more I realize how important and rare a true friend is.
That friend that you can call anytime, anywhere, for anything, and got an honest, love filled response.
Well, I happen to be fortunate to have a best friend (since 2nd grade) that is just that.

You haven't heard much about her around here because she has been living in Italy for the year, but next Monday she is coming HOME!
I can't wait to get this girl in my arms.

5. Welcome home crazy bitches.

Did you see the insanity that ensued at homegirls' sister-in-law's son's (did you follow that?) baptism?
Was I only the one that was expecting some gun fire?
Dear God!

---

Hope you're having a fabulous week.
All my love.

Something Borrowed

Yet again I've fallen in love with a Kate Hudson's movie fashion style.

In Something Borrowed, Kate is pulled together, and effortlessly chic. Each outfit is perfectly accessorized and it the epitome of summer style.

Have you seen the movie?

Gun to your head.....John Krasinski or the sexxxy man that plays Dex?

Ahhhhhh.....I don't know!

They are both too perfect for words.

They make the $12 dollar movie ticket WELL worth it!

5.16.2011

J'adoreTory

I've been whining around here that I really need a new pair of black, work wedges, and today at my lunch hour I finally bit the bullet.

The "Sally 2" Peep wedge at Nordstrom

As I'm getting older I'm trying to buy quality pieces that look amazing and will last a long time, while slowly fading away from the cheapy stores like tj.maxx and forever 21.

OOTD: (kind of) spring edition

Happy Monday, y'all!

---

Can I please tell you that I am about 3 seconds away from peacing out on my favorite city in the world.

Chicago's weather has been absolutely miserable as of late. This entire weekend poured rain and dropped down to 40 degree temps.

It's been one of the worst spring's I can remember and the weather has really thrown a wrench in my outfit planning!

Since it's not really winter, not yet spring (hello, B. Spears) I've been getting a lot of use out of cardigans and umbrellas.

Hopefully on my next OOTD post I can bring out some skirts, dresses, and sandals!

I shopped all weekend for some new summer pieces and came out with nothin'! Hopefully this week I will have some more luck. I'm on the hunt for work wedges and skinny khakis. Any suggestions?

House Tour

I've always been a huge, huge fan of Ms. Keri Russel. I grew up loving her on Felicity, and as she grew into a goregous woman, I've always loved her fashion sense.

Then, Elle Decor featured her house, and I fell even more in love with her effortlessly chic style.

I didn't read the article, but I'd like to bet a pair of Reva's that she used a designer.

And that designer seriously understood Keri. I feel like her house, as it should be, is a direct representation of her "perfect self" and I, for one, would love to hang out there, open a bottle of wine, and hang with Keri and her cute boys.

Isn't her family adorbs??

Not bad, huh?
