Wedding Wednesday: The other dress(es)

Last night, my girlfriend Laura and I had a drink at Pink Taco before we met a bigger group of girls. Laura is a newlywed and I so I love picking her brain about all the tiny details that go into a wedding. One of my most recent questions was what to wear to showers.

I have 5 showers from February to May, which means that I need to start stock piling lots and lots of dresses (and shoes) for all of these lovely events.

I've heard recently that the bride should wear white to all of the showers. Stand out as a the bride, I guess.

White dresses are hard to come by - and not always the most flattering - so every time I'm out shopping my eyes are peeled. These are a few in the stores now that I'm obsessing over.

Did you wear white to your showers? Do you think the Bride should?

Weekend Report

This weekend was finally cold enough for me to break out my j.crew vest - and I wore it all freaking weekend.

Friday night we tried a new sushi spot in West LA called "En Sushi". We've found great high-end sushi spots, and decent hole in the wall places, but this was the first spot we've found were you can get good drinks and fancy rolls, and manage to get out of there for under $100.00.

And yet again, I somehow managed to finish a 6.2 mile run along Eagle Rock/Topanga Mountain.

The first 3 miles, clearly....suck. But I take breaks when I need them, and keep water close by, and do my best to just get through it. Luckily, the way down is much more fun than the way up - so we finished the route at 1:25 - and no dry heaving this time.

After the run, we stopped at Joel's favorite restaurant, Reel Inn in Malibu, for local fish and a beer. We spent the rest of the afternoon watching all of our college football teams lose. Since we were sad, tired, and freaking sore....we did what any California local would do when they need a little pick me up.

And boy did it hit the spot. We had a glass of wine and we were both asleep by 10pm.
I dropped Joel off at the airport early Sunday morning since he is away on business for the next week and got busy on laundry, cleaning, grocery shopping, and an afternoon walk.

It was a quiet weekend - just what we needed since our next visitor, Claire, arrives on Wednesday!

Happies

This orchid that my Dad picked up for me at our local market while he was in LA has been catching my eye all week. It adds such a fun punch of color - and I like looking at it while I'm cooking and chopping. He may have started a new addiction for me.

Luckily it was a Buy 1/Get 1 deal, so the guest room is getting a little extra lovin' too.

I think I'm going to be making an early Christmas present for myself in the next few weeks. Great new shape. Ray Ban Meteors.

We got received an incredibly generous and suiting engagement present in the mail this week. Joel and I were literally jumping up and down when the FedEx guy wheeled in our piece of gold. We opened that bad boy right up and had it stocked in minutes.

 Isn't she pretty?

While my mom was here we hit up a sale at Cusp and scored these TB flip flops for 40% off. I normally wear an 8.5 so they're a little tight but I'm going to try and make them work.

Homemade pizza is a staple around this house. It's so easy to do - and I try to pile it high with  veggies to reduce the guilt. I had been using Boboli's wheat crust until I switched over to a full time Trader Joe's shopper. Their pizza crust takes a little more work, since you have to roll it out to the pizza shape, but it is the best damn pizza ever.

Happy Thursday!

Wedding Wednesday: The Website

The website is not competency finished - but it's close enough so I think it's safe to share.

I chose MyWedding.com to create our free site. There are hundreds and hundreds to choose from but I went with MyWedding because it seemed to be s the simplest layout, easiest to use, and didn't include a tough URL.

It took me a few hours to pick out our pre-made design since nothing matched perfectly. Since most of the layouts that used my colors were not my style, I decided to just try and match the "feel" I'm going for: simple, classic, nautical, & elegant.
