Wowza

Is it seriously already Wednesday? That's crazy talk - but I'll take it.

I'm going to take a break on WILW this week, and fill you in on a few happenings over here.

Yesterday, Kelly's Korner talked about some of her summer goals, and I thought it'd be a good opportunity for me to reflect on some of the changes I want to make for myself this summer.

Like Kelly, summer has always revealed a new chapter in my life. Normally, after a year of college, I would move back home, try to detox from the year before, and spend more time with family and close friends. and better myself for the upcoming year.

This year, life doesn't stop for summer. Work keeps making me show up at 8am everyday, and there isn't too much I can do about it.

However, I hope to make this summer all that I can so, I am going:

1. I am going to continue down the "low carb" road I've been on. I've been doing a pretty stand up job (if I do say so myself) of avoiding starchy carbs for breakfast and lunch. My body feels lighter, and I have noticeably more energy throughout the day. I'm slowly losing weight from it, but I feel like it helps me make better choices (no potbelly sandwich's anymore) so I'm going to continue doin' what I'm doin'....with one small addition.

I want to have at least one day a week where I don't touch a single starchy carb for the entire 24 hours. It will take a lot more planning on my part, but I think it will make a huge difference (hopefully on the scale).

2. I want to spend a lot of time with family. I have gone way too many months without seeing Joel's nephew (who lives 3 miles away) and I'm not letting that happen again. This weekend, I planned a whole weekend with that little nugget.....taking him to the zoo and aquarium, and I'm going to continue to plan activities that allow Joel and I time to spend with him - because all of a sudden we blinked and he turned 1.

3. Save some $$$. I have been (almost) working a full year now, and I don't have as much in my savings account as I would have liked. This summer, I really want to reduce the amount of time I spend shopping and consuming, and instead find satisfaction in watching my bank accounts grow.

We both really enjoy the lifestyle that we lead, and we don't need that to change, but we are going to try and make small changes here and there that can hopefully lead to big savings - like trying to spend less at the grocery store, go out to eat 3 times a week, instead of 4...buy 4 bottles of wine instead of 6.....you know - the hard things in life ;)

Have you thought about any changes you hope to make this summer? Today is the 1st of June....and in my mind, the true start of summer, so here goes nothing.

Happy summer lovies!

  1. How cute is Joel's nephew?! I want to eat him up!

I'M with you on the saving money thing - it's so easy (and fun!) to spend money, but I've found that it's equally as fun to SAVE too. Especially if you have a specific goal in mind.

  2. This is a good kick in the pants for me to evaluate my life!! There are so many gradual changes I swear I'm going to make and then I eventually fall off the bandwagon - hate that!

So far, I'm back on the fit train. Well, I have been for a week now and I'm hoping to make it stick this time!

  3. I was just thinking today that I needed to recommit to running. I should probably set some summer goals too. Drinks in Chicago should be on that list!
