cooking rut

Those 6 images are the extent of my home cooked cooking. And they go on rotation. In the winter, I'll throw in chili, and in the summer, you'll see some corn on the cob in there, but those are my 6 staples.

I always have the desire for new foods, but then when I walk in the kitchen, I can't think for the life of me meals that do not include chicken or ground turkey.

For instance, last's night dinner, was not exactly a staple, but wasn't that far off my typical route:
Now that Joel and I are living in California we need to be trying to incorporate more colorful food, and less bread. And, I want to get more adventurous in the kitchen.

I'm hoping to have these recipes make an appearance on my kitchen table, and this blog, in the next 2 weeks. And I think the soup is going to take place on Wednesday! Woot - makin' progress!

Are you a good cook? When did you start becoming a good one...and how?!

  1. You should look at pioneer woman recipes! They are always so good and she takes a picture of every step which really helps. Most of them aren't the healthiest, but so worth it!!

  2. Pinterest sister, Pinterest!!! I have found so many amazing recipes there. I was just like you, I had 7-8 meals and that was it, My husband is like, which one are we having tonight!!?? So now he is always suprised when he comes to the table and something new is there, granted we don't always love the new dish, but it is trial and error!!!
I have been married for 11 going on 12 years in June and I don't think I became a "decent" cook until about 2 years ago.

  3. I didn't really get into cooking until a couple months after I got married. The first couple months I was taking night classes and was hard pressed for time to really get the creative juices flowing and cook something besides shrimp and spaghetti. But then I branched out and took a look at family recipes, online, and then eventually Pinterest! I have a food blog if you ever want to check it out. :)

  4. I have a really tasty stuffed peppers recipe for you. I've tried it with both lean ground beef and ground turkey. Both were just as tasty! http://www.dailydishblog.com/2011/02/valentines-recap.html One really simple meal is skewered meats/shrimp/veggies. Brush with a little olive oil and seasonings, and you have one delicious meal every time. :)

  5. I love, love, love to cook. I have always been a baker, but became really invested in cooking post-college. I try at least 2 new recipes every week and was just explaining to a friend last night why I will not give up the time I take to cook for anything else. Good luck with the new dishes and sorry it's so cold here!
