All over the board

Hi!

Not sure if you caught my new years resolutions, but one of them happened to be to run a half marathon.

It kind of came out of nowhere. On New Years Day, I hollered for Joel to grab my wallet. He probably assumed I was taking advantage of some sales, but when I told him I had actually just registered for an April 1st marathon, his first question to me was, why?

Want to know why?

Because I went back and read my blog post here. Written on the 1st day of 2011. And you know what one of my goals was? To run a half marathon.

And, I'm not going to let another year pass, and then come to find out that I failed at the challenges I lined up for myself based on nothing but laziness.

So - that's why.

And, because I love good Pintrest quote:

I've run quite a few races in my day - and I know I can accomplish this - but it is significantly more than I've ever challenged myself to do.

I've always had success with expert runner Hal Higdeon's programs, so I took what he recommended for a beginner trainer, added 1 week of training, and made it better match my schedule.

Half Marathon!

Plus, I bought a new pair of Asics, so, I'm pretty much good to go. There is no turning back now!

On another note, while I was in Mexico I read this month's book club book, The Hunger Games. Have you read it?

Was that a stupid question?

Everyone at the airport and at the beach was reading it, and I had heard good things, but I have to say I didn't fall madly in love.

It is very hard to put down, and I think about the characters and the plot a lot, but it gives me lots of anxiety and kind of frustrates me. But, the more I keep thinking about it, maybe a good book is supposed to do that.

Maybe a good book isn't supposed to leave you feeling warm and fuzzy - but, to be honest, I like feeling warm and fuzzy.  So besides when my book club pushes me out of my comfort zone, I think I'll be sticking with Jenifer Weiner-esque novels.

Also - (1 more question) did you watch The Bachelor? I hated Ashley from last season.....and so I didn't fall in love Ben from last season, and haven't fallen in love with him yet. I don't get his appeal, so I decided not to partake and watch all of the drama, but don't fret, I'll probably get sucked in around episode 6.

alright, I might get his appeal in this picture...

Hope this short week is off to a great start!

Tomorrow is Thursday! How did that happen?

  1. Ohh man, that quote about your dreams is DEAD ON. Clearly I should be strapping on my running shoes as well - I'm not much of a resolution-maker but I at least started running last year. Yes, it hurt when I fell off the bandwagon.

I loved the Hunger Games for exactly the reason you said - I can't put it down. Yes, it made me anxious too but in a good way!

  3. You can do it Tess! :)

The Hunger Games is a great read but it is definitely not a warm and fuzzy book so I completely agree with you there. I still really enjoyed it though, a lot more than I thought I would. Did you read the other two books?

And I haven't seen The Bachelor yet because I couldn't stand Ashley so I didn't want either. lol But I think I'll be watching it since I've heard he was a nice guy. Plus I do love all the drama. ;)

  6. SO much to comment on...SO proud of you for biting the bullet and signing up for the 1/2!! You go girl! That is a bucket list thing for me and I really need to get it in gear! Hal Higdon's programs really do work well. And the bachelor...I totally watched and said I wasn't going to. He seems really sweet...the girls seem nutso! I'm sure I'll keep watching. Ha! And finally, the Hunger Games. I haven't read it. I know I'm seriously the last person on earth who hasn't. It was the same with me with Twilight. I'll read it before the movie comes out. Guess I'm running out of time! Happy new year :)
