Vancouver Tips Needed

http://conspiracy.cia.com.au/Holidays/2004_USA/day26/2004-06-10-1016-dsc03083.jpg

I'm feeling like a lucky girl! Joel has a work trip in Vancouver over my birthday weekend (May 8th) and I'm jumping aboard to spend the weekend with him. And this is a work trip that includes a pretty big private concert, so that shouldn't be too shabby either!

We had considered Vancouver as a "babymoon" (sorry mom, she cant stand that term) location, but since we're getting in here, Aspen has won our vote!

We will only have one free day and night so I wanted to open it up here to see if you can point us in any solid direction (I'm looking at you Laura).

I want to pack in a solid punch, so what do we need to do and most importantly, where we need to eat.

  4. I've been to Vancouver a bunch of times as my brother lives there and I've stopped there for a couple days on the way up North to the Yukon too. It's such a beautiful city, you will LOVE it. Stanley Park is definitely a must, you can rent bikes, walk or do a tour bus that takes you along the entire walkway. With the old growth trees it's absolutely gorgeous. Canada Place and Gastown are the two touristy (but still great) areas downtown to check out. Gastown is basically the ol' main street strip where you'll find shops, restaurants etc. Just don't stray too far of water street as the next street over is pretty dodgy. One of my favourite places in gastown to stop for a drink and a bite to eat is Steamworks brewing co. It's a brew pub with delicious beers, and the food was really good when I was there too (though it was several years ago). Kitsilano is the coolest and hippest neighbourhood with lots of shopping and amazing restaurants. You'll absolutely love Vancouver, I'm sure. If you have extra time (and have a car) I recommend heading to North Van to do the Capilano suspension bridge...it's really neat, though if you're afraid of heights it can be a teeny bit scary. You can also hike around there too, I did the Grouse Mountain hike last time I was there. Have a great time!

  6. I went to Vancouver last spring and LOVED it. We lucked out and had pretty great weather so that helped.

Definitely check out Stanley park. We just walked around but you can also ride bikes, jog, hike. My blog post on Stanley Park

If you are not afraid of heights I second Capilano suspension bridge. My sister is afraid of heights but still made it across the bridge and thought it was worth it. You can see my photos here

I really enjoyed exploring Granville Island. There are cute stores, restaurants, and a farmer's market. My post on Granville.

Not sure if you have a hotel yet but I highly recommend the Georgian Court hotel.
We stayed on the Orchid Floor which included a bunch of extras: a flat iron, curling iron, upgraded Aveda amenities, a yoga mat, additional satin-padded and skirt hangers plus In Style and other fashion magazines. For no extra charge!

    Restaurants I loved
    Nicli: Delicious Neapolitan pizza
Medina: for breakfast, the waffles are a must order
